Make sure you check out PART 1
I sat down to define what a successful worship service looked like... and that revealed the real problem. When my list reached #17 I just had to stop. I asked "Is this really what I think makes a successful worship service?" No wonder I was frustrated.
I sat down to define what a successful worship service looked like... and that revealed the real problem. When my list reached #17 I just had to stop. I asked "Is this really what I think makes a successful worship service?" No wonder I was frustrated.
Things found there way onto that success list
that didn't belong there.
that didn't belong there.
Catchy Cool bumper videos, Original Artwork, The Newest Worship Tune, A brand new set design every month, Backing Tracks, Killer Lighting design for every service...
I'm all for putting together a creative worship service that captures both the heart and mind, but the list I was making was more about being cool... it was more about copying what other churches (that I deemed successful) where doing... It was not about reaching the heart and mind of the people in front of me... It was not about growing the people behind me into successful leaders...
I threw that list away...
DON'T GET ME WRONG... We still do bumper vids and original artwork. We try to come up with stage design. We make Back Tracks every now and then, to help capture a more produced sound. We try to do what we can to make Lighting a creative element...
...BUT THESE THINGS DO NOT EQUAL SUCCESS!!
So I went back to making a list. I had talks with church leadership and took in their thoughts.
It turns out that the success of the worship service isn't just about the music prowess of the worship leader.
Here are my personal goals to make every service a success.
- Personally connect with God
- Lead my team, Grow my team
- Strive for excellence, in planning and in service
