At Redemption Church we always implement a scripture into our worship experience. We try to build the worship around a different scripture each week.
I feel like this has been a great thing for our congregation. The Word of God should be a part of our worship. Thinking and meditating on What God speaks is worship!
Many people in our congregation have never been exposed to the Word of God at all. This is a great way to deliver truth to them out of the context of a sermon. Often times the new knowledge they receive on God through Scripture will fuel their worship. That is a lot healthier than a musical style preference fueling our worship!
We are trying something new this month. We are going to use the same passage each week. bWe are going to build our worship around the same scripture in hopes that the message impacts them and they actually learn scripture! (Being able to quote and understand the bible seems like a dying art sometimes...)
This month it is Romas 6:4-6 (NIV)
4 We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.
5 For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we will certainly also be united with him in a resurrection like his. 6 For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body ruled by sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin—
It is my hope and prayer that the word of God, which has more power than my musical talents, will be hidden away in the hearts of worshippers.
I've also written a song that is based on this scripture. It feels great to sing straight scripture! I will try to make a recording and post it on the blog.
How are you using scripture in your Worship services?
