One of the things that Redemption Church does best is Current Events Cafe. We transform our sanctuary into a Coffee House/Music Lounge/Town Hall Meeting. It's a big "fishing hole" event for us. We always meet new people and solidify some of the contacts we already have through hanging out and practicing the lost art of listening.
Every one wants to be heard... so are you listening?
How did Current Events start...?
Redemption as a young church plant had a high percentage of un-churched people coming through it's doors and finding Jesus. These people are vastly different, not just from church people, but even each other. Republicans, democrats, and anarchists... Lawyers, indie rockers, and ex drug dealers... Upper class, middle class, and Worship Leaders.... (joke)
The staff of Redemption wasn't just getting questions about Jesus... we were getting questions about everything. Gay marriage, Radical Islam, Death Sentence, Abortion, Illegal Immigration, separation of church and state... on and on...
In an effort to bring us all together and find out what the Word of God says, we discovered something huge. A game changer. We found that people wanted to talk. We found that people where shocked that a church would let them talk. We found that people were more open to the Word after the Church had listened to them.
We made it an event. We do it a few times a year. It helps us remember the power of listening. Current Events Cafe makes Redemption Church unique.
