Balancing the Natural and the Super-Natural

Balance is important in life. If we are off balance it's difficult to do the simplest things... like walking.

Our ministries need to be balanced or they become difficult.  We need a proper balance of the Natural and the Super-natural in our ministry.

THE NATURAL
The Natural, or the physical, is what WE do. As creative arts pastor you plan services, schedule volunteers, chart tunes, attend meetings... As a growing Christian you pray, study the Word, share your faith...

These are OUR actions, and they are important. They aren't to be overlooked or put on a back burner.

THE SUPER-NATURAL

The Super-Natural, or the Spiritual, is what God does. God saves, heals, restores, forgives, draws us close, reveals truth, does miracles...

These are HIS actions, and YES they are important. They aren't to be overlooked or put on the back burner. Do not take them for granted.

Finding Balance
I realize there are different spectrums within Christianity. I was raised in a Pentecostal context where the super-natural was celebrated and some aspects of the Natural were shirked. I have also worked in some Denominal settings where large aspects of the Natural were planned for and some Super-Natural happenings were not received.

We need both!

What good is a Super-Natural God if we are too focused on the Naturals of service planning?
Are we really honoring a Super-Natural God if we don't take care of the Natural?
All doctrinal differences aside... Are You Balanced?

Personally, in your home are you balanced?  Is your ministry Team balanced? Is the vision of the Church balanced?
Do you honor God in the Natural and are you open to receive His Super-Natural?

---------------------------------
Don't let your Natural conflict with the Super-Natural God wants to do!
Here are some tips
  • Treat your plan like a plan. It is not a script. It is not set in stone. Build some flexibility into your plan and into the culture of your team.  Don't take it personal if your plan gets changed by God. Be willing to walk by faith
  • Give space! Sometimes we don't allow space in our services for the Super-Natural to take place between God and Man. Silence is ok. No... it REALLY is.
  • Follow God's Lead! Every time.  Have you ever been leading worship and have a very clear thought or understanding come to you? News flash!  That could be God talking to his leader!! (You are his leader) He might want you to share that thought. Would it be that bad if you stopped a song midstream, and shared what God said? Can you trust Him?
  • Make prayer a part of your natural!  Believe it or not, God can help you plan your services.
  • Be aware of the Super-Natural he wants to do outside of church time. You might have a team member that needs a God answer for their life right in the middle of your pre-service rehearsal. Don't hesitate to pray for that need.  Wouldn't it be terrible to go into service missing what could have been the biggest super-natural moment of the day...
  • BELIEVE! Believe that God wants to do His Super-Natural work! In fact, why don't you and I pray to God right now that He would do His super-natural work in us.
