Vision vs Ideas

I love ideas.

I spend part of everyday brainstorming different areas of ministry. I love the feeling of a new fresh creative idea. I think the church can always use new ideas!

It's sad to see a church that hasn't had a new idea in a while. There are churches out there that haven't had a new idea in decades. Those churches are struggling today.

Ideas are Great!  But I gotta say... Vision trumps any idea.

Vision is basically the ability to see... As in, see where your organization is currently, and the direction it needs to go. Vision brings great things into our ministries, but more importantly it's what Vision eliminates that is so powerful.

True Vision should eliminate wandering.

True Vision should allow leadership to chart a direct course. No longer should you and your team be pulled in every single direction, or change with every new idea that comes by... Vision should replace some questions and uncertainty with answers and clarity

As great as ideas are... They can't do that!

Ideas need to follow the vision.  If you took in every stray idea out there and applied it in your church it would be a disaster. Not every idea fits a particular vision.
Every church should have a particular vision...  Let's back up further. Every Believer should have a particular vision for their life.  Paul said that we are all members of the body but that each member was particular.

I know that every one of us have some common vision between us. To fulfill the Great Commission, to live a life that honors God, to submit ourselves in service to the Kingdom... But beyond this... it starts becoming particular.
What is your vision? What is the particular vision of your church?

An Idea that fits Vision is Golden!

Having a clearly defined vision helps create a breeding ground for visions that will fit the context of your particular mission. Make sure that your Ideas are following Vision and not the other way around. If your Vision is following your ideas it's going to be a mess in about 3.5 minutes.

In the end, we the Church need both Vision and Ideas to have true success. However we need to place a higher value on the Vision God has given us. Ideas are inexact & undiscriminating however vision is Particular and reveals purpose!

I've been trying to say this everyday in prayer. I invite you to do the same.

God, I'd rather have Your Vision than my Ideas!
I'd trade all my Ideas for Your Vision.
Help me to see.
