Communication is not always easy. Sometimes we are bad communicators. Sometimes the message is difficult to relay as well as receive. Sometimes people just refuse to hear.
BUT! How good does it feel when you communicate and people "Get it?" I realize "get it" is kind of an abstract term, but it's the best I could come up with. "Get it" is more than reaching agreement or understanding. It's more than successfully sharing information or being heard. To me "Get it" is when your heart and mind's message is transmitted into someone else's heart and mind. Words are important here but easily over rated. A bond is formed.
I love moments where people "Get it." It could be as something as simple as explaining something musical to your team and you see their eyes light up. It could be something as important as sharing the Gospel of Jesus and you see a change of countenance and you know "Godly Sorrow" is working repentance (1 Cor 7:10).
We as leaders better love these moments!
We as leaders better recognize these moments!
When was the last time that you "Got it?" When was the last time you tried to understand and not just be understood. (Not easy for me - I think I do this and then realize I haven't) Have we gotten so busy that we just throw out words and don't form that "Get it" bond?
When people "Get it" they are willing to fight for it!
Maybe the someone who is habitually late on your team needs to "Get it." Wouldn't it be great if a first time visitor could "get it." Well that is the goal right!? Looking for higher levels of commitment? Someone needs to "Get it."
Maybe my team, my church, my family, needs me to "Get it." Perhaps they need to know that there is a heart and mind connection between us that goes beyond words. "Get it?"
------------------
And finally... How does God feel when I "Get it?"
God is the "Get it" master. He formed such a strong bond with us that "he took up our pain and bore our suffering." (Isaiah 53) "He was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed."
God "Gets it." He came to us with more than words. He formed a bond.
God, please help me a sinner, who happens to work in a church... to "Get it." I want a bond with you, a connection beyond words.
