Sunday Recap!

Pin It Pre-service went well. We had one of the smoothest rehearsals in recent memory. We covered a 6 song set list in about 30 minutes! (That is pretty fast!)  Finishing with time to spare I took the remaining time to teach the band. We played a 12 bar blues progression and took turns improvising. I taught them about the Major Pentatonic scale. This 5 Note scale serves as a basic building block to soloing. You literally can't go wrong playing a Major Pentatonic Scale over Basic Blues.  (1 2 3 5 6 makes up the scale. Here is an example in the key of A - A  B  C#  E  F#)

Don't Worry, Be HappyImage via WikipediaBTW...I found an entertaining 3 minute featuring Bobby McFerrin (Yes... the "don't worry be happy" songwriter) where he demonstrates the ease of the Major Pentatonic. Check the link at the bottom of the page and try to sing along!

Creativity is inspiring and also great fun! Our rehearsals could use more fun and creativity so I plan to do more improv with the band.

In-Service the band played with great energy and hit every target! Vocals and transitions were solid. We did "Say Say" by Fee and I LOVE that song. Our congregation gets pumped on that song! They love to yell SAY SAY. Good fun energy song.  (as an aside Say Say always brings about a reference to This Song!)

There was a great moment during "He watches me", an original song. The song is based on Matthew 10:29-30 and has been an important song for our Church. In the middle of that song Pastor unexpectedly took the platform and invited anyone that wanted prayer to come forward. It was really encouraging to see our altar packed during worship.

At the end of the day it's not about the music, the songs, the performance or sermon. It's about the life transformation that comes from Jesus!
