Ministry Is Work!

What is he shoveling?
I don't know why exactly, but it's surprising how few people truly understand that Ministry Is Work!

Ministry can be fun. Ministry can be enjoyable. Ministry can be rewarding. But honestly... couldn't you say that about any Job? There are people out there who could say that about practicing law, doing carpentry, or teaching.

The People who have a certain aptitude for construction would say it can be fun, enjoyable, and rewarding. None of us would flinch if they followed it up with "But Construction is Work!"

Somehow... when I say "Ministry is Work" I usually get flinches. People are surprised or even BOTHERED by that statement.  I stand by my statement!  The ministry schedule alone is too much for most...

Look at the church in the book of Acts, The prophets of the old testament, the ministry of Jesus! Look at our brothers and sisters around the world!  It is definitely WORK and there is nothing wrong in saying it is!

There are so many deadlines. So many needs! So many lost and dieing everyday. There is a crazy amount of responsibility. It's never enough to have had a great Sunday, we are pushing toward a follow up! We get bad news far too often. That bad news affects me in my emotions, my mentality, my spirituality. Paul calls us to rejoice with those who rejoice and mourn with those who mourn!  THAT IS HARD WORK and it comes at you 24/7.

However! It is unlike any work ever. I think there is more fun to be had in the work of the ministry than any other! I think nothing is more enjoyable than working along side my brothers and sisters as we work together with God! I know there is nothing that brings a greater reward than doing this work.

It is Work! It is Hard Work!  And it's worth it.

I think often about how close I was to going other directions in my life. I was on my way to studying Broadcast Journalism when everything changed. I was sitting in my car outside of a Taco Cabana in Waco, Tx when I told God he could sign up me up to do His work.

Granted... It's not as epic as Isaiah 6 but it had the same out come...

8 Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?”
And I said, “Here am I. Send me!”

On a lighter note... I thought of this...
